Quiet beach living, behind the gate

Palmetto Bay is a 150-acre, eco-minded beach community set on a bay on Roatán’s north shore, roughly in the middle of the island. It is gated and patrolled around the clock, and most homes are vacation homes, with a growing group of full-time residents.

The beach is the heart of it: soft white sand, calm shallow water, and a reef a couple hundred yards offshore. A palapa dock with hammocks is a favorite spot for morning coffee, yoga or simply listening to the surf.

The community has an on-site restaurant and bar, a dive shop and a pool, and Roatan Island Brewing Co. is a short walk away.

It is away from the tourist corridor, so a car makes life easier. That distance is exactly what people come here for.

“[DRAFT – Todd to approve or rewrite] Palmetto Bay is for people who want the beach to themselves. You give up walking to restaurants, and you gain quiet, security and that reef right off the sand. Bring a car, and you will not miss the crowds.”
