West End for dining and nightlife; Coxen Hole for banks and errands.
Sandy Bay stretches for about two miles along Roatán’s north-west coast, between West End and Coxen Hole. It is one of the island’s most established communities and home to one of its largest expat populations, so it feels lived-in rather than built for tourists.
The shoreline sits on the reef, with calm water for snorkeling and diving straight from shore. Anthony’s Key Resort and the Roatan Institute for Marine Sciences are here, along with the dolphin encounters and the island’s only hyperbaric chamber.
Across the road, Carambola Botanical Gardens offers shaded trails through orchids and tropical forest, and the Roatán Museum tells the island’s story.
You get quieter days than West Bay and West End, with both just minutes away when you want a beach day or a night out.
